First Look at my Office Setup

Stair case wit says: 
I should have called this new blog, "Old Man's Office ( Hacks & Knick Knacks)"

It's not limited to just my "office" hacks.
It's not limited to just "my" hacks. It can include collections of other people's clever hacks or useful collections of knick knacks.

Too late. Oh well. 

Why start this new blog? Because some aspects of my learn & study environment do not fit well under my other blogs. So I decided I need yet another blog besides the ones already  (here), (here), (here), (here), and (here) 

Below is a photo of part of my office setup. There's more than meets the mind's eye on first glance here. What should we focus on first in this Figure number 1? (BTW click on THIS to see the image in it own tab) (p.s. that's a hack btw --providing the image in its own tab , or window if you wish, to support text farther below)

(A) Ignore the computer screen for starters. Instead, focus on the array of colored pens standing up just behind the keyboard. What keeps those pens visible and upright? In other words, what hack did I use to create the home-brewed "pen holder"? (One of my many DIY Knick Knacks) (Aside: See here and here for e.g. of other people's hacks)

(A.1) Here it is: Start off with a long rectangular cut out from an oak-tag board. Lay the longer side horizontally.  Mark off vertical lines 1/4 inch apart. Snip the upper and lower minor parts of the lines with a scissor to create foldable weak spots. Fold the oak-tag strip in accordion style to create up-projecting ribs with 1/4 inch plateaus separating the ribs.  Glue together the inside surfaces of the ribs. Place the ribbed strip in a plastic Zip-lock bag whose top half has been cut off. (Click on link to see other Z-hacks) Attach an L-shaped stiffer cardboard behind the ribbed oak-tag, Secure by placing a weight (in this case the loose leaf holder that supports my keyboard) on the bottom of the L-shape to keep it basically upright (with a slight tilt backwards). Insert the pens into their slots. Now you see them all neatly arrayed for picking the right one.

(A.2) Next, look at the rectangular tea-bags container box to the left of the keyboard.
What is its purpose? How was it modified to work a hack other than its originally intended use?
